Frequently asked questions

I purchased a report but can't find it+

Check your email — we send a copy with the PDF attached right after purchase. Search for 'Rebate Scout Report' in your inbox (and spam folder). The email includes a permanent link to view your report online. If you still can't find it, email us with the email address you used at checkout and we'll resend it.

How accurate are the estimates?+

Our estimates are based on the information you provided and current program rules. Every credit in your report carries a data-freshness label and a 'last checked' timestamp showing when we verified the underlying program data against the official state or federal source. 'Verified' means matched in the last 24–48 hours. 'Based on prior cycle' means verify with the provider before acting. 'Pending re-verification' means we flagged a discrepancy and you should check manually. These labels are about how fresh the data is, not a guarantee of your legal eligibility — always confirm with the administering authority before acting. We err on the conservative side: most users find they qualify for at least the amounts shown.

A program status seems wrong or a link is broken+

State programs change frequently — sometimes weekly. If you notice something outdated, please email us. We verify all program statuses and URLs regularly, and we'll update it right away. This kind of feedback genuinely helps us and other users.

Can I get a refund?+

Yes. If the credits in your report don't exceed the $12 purchase price, email us and we'll refund you. We also offer refunds within 30 days if you're unsatisfied — we may ask a couple of questions to understand what went wrong so we can improve.

Do I need a tax professional to claim these credits?+

Most credits in your report can be claimed yourself by following the step-by-step instructions. For straightforward credits (homestead exemption, HOMES/HEAR rebates, Child Tax Credit), the government portals and IRS forms are designed for direct filing. For more complex situations — especially if you have unusual income sources, business use of your home, or you completed 2025 energy installations and need to file §25C/§25D credits before the final deadline — consulting a CPA is worthwhile.

How does the referral program work?+

After purchasing your report, you'll get a personal referral link. Share it with friends — when they purchase their own report, $4 is automatically refunded to your original payment method. You can earn up to $12 back (3 referrals — enough to fully refund your report).

What are the free rebate alerts?+

State rebate programs (like HOMES and HEAR) open and close constantly. When you sign up for alerts, we monitor your state and email you when a program changes status — new funding rounds, waitlist openings, application deadlines. It's free, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

I entered my ZIP code — what are these local programs?+

When you enter your ZIP code, we find county, city, utility, and regional programs specific to your area. These include utility rebates (from providers like Oncor, Georgia Power, Xcel Energy, Duke Energy, and more), air quality district incentives (like the South Coast AQMD lawn mower trade-in and Bay Area AQMD wood stove replacement grants), and county-level property tax relief beyond the state homestead exemption. We track 220+ local programs across 33 states and 50 metro areas — most of which aren't consolidated anywhere else, not even on DSIRE.
